Local Veterans Day Event 2016 at Temple Beth Am

Veterans Day Event
Friday, November 11, 2016
Temple Beth Am, 2377 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY 11566

To the Veterans in our community:

Hello my name is Jeff Newman and I am a Vietnam veteran.

Last May coming up to Memorial Day, Rabbi Mickey Baum of Temple Beth Am led a Friday night service. When it came time for Kaddish (the traditional prayer of the deceased), in addition to reading the names of temple members, he read the names of those who have made the supreme sacrifice during the "war on terror".

As a Vietnam veteran I was very moved by this and suggested to our clergy that perhaps we can do something here at Temple Beth Am for the veterans within our community on this upcoming Veterans Day which just happens to fall on a Friday this year. The clergy is 100% in favor and so a committee was formed with me as the chairman.

I am reaching out to our local community so as to learn who are veterans and how many would like to attend this event. We are not only looking for veterans of the current war on terror but those who go back perhaps as far as the China Marines which predates U.S. involvement in WWII by a few years and all conflicts in between. Cold warriors too, even though many of your stories can never be told.

We are currently planning to have a catered buffet dinner which will be a meet, mix & mingle. Find old buddies, meet up with those you know, etc. There will be a special service geared towards veterans following the dinner with dessert after services.

The event will start with dinner promptly at 6:30 p.m.

The social hall at Temple Beth Am can seat only so many people and we have to limit our numbers so it will be first come first serve with RSVP a must. The dinner is for veterans only with each able to bring one guest. Please RSVP to me. Include your service branch along with where and when you served on active duty and if you are bringing a guest and the name of the guest.

To reserve your place at dinner please email me at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We are working with Ed Managano's office and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency. Ed Mangano is a huge advocate for veterans and will be joining us at this event.

Finally, we are not planning to charge anyone for this event. We are fortunate in that we have obtained a corporate sponsor for this event in the form of a caterer. We are also accepting donations to help offset various other costs involved with this event. Please feel free to contact me about donations at: This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank You
